The Project Update

November 8, 2011

Concrete was poured to set the footing for the backstops.

The Project is located along Hwy 151 on the north side between Callaghan Rd and Old Hwy 90. We have 60+ acres where Phase I is in progress. You can get a panoramic view of the construction by taking the Callaghan exit slowly off of Hwy 151 west. As long as funds are available, we are looking to build four fields with 3 lighted. When the Project was first conceived, we had ample money. Today, inflation of the operating cost has eaten into the buying power of those funds. We have less value to work with.

The water lines are now in the ground. We still need to connect. Therefore, we do not plant grass until we have water on site to allow it to take root.

We have expanded our efforts to find grantors where ever they may be. Several different firms now know about our project. More will be given the opportunity in the near future.

Stadiums, scoreboards, flag poles, foul poles, dugouts, stands, and press boxes can be named after several someones.

The SAMSBL can expect some workdays at the site over the next 12 months.

PRACTICE SLOTS

November 10, 2011

Different sites will be available to secure some practice slots for the 2012 season. Some may cost something. Each slot will be a two hour window that will be assigned to your team for a period of weeks beginning in January. They will be announced sometime in late December and awarded on a first come, first served basis.

PLAYOFFS

November 13, 2011

Finally, the last playoff game has concluded. The 18+ Blaze beat the Titans 6-5. Dr. David Lopez was named MVP as the dedicated fan he is.

The 2011 Season has ended.

2012

November 11, 2011

The Managers decided no first half/second half season. We will have just one beginning March 16, 2012. We will have 20 games plus playoffs for some team ending in late August.

Next Managers' meeting will be January 10, 2012 at the Double Tree Hotel. Non-refundable Deposits for each team are now due and need to total $2,000 prior to the meeting. Each team will be visited during the holiday season to ensure their commitment. If all commit as promised, we will have 38 teams.

New teams are looking for players. Rookie players are to call 302-8228 if they are interested in being placed on a team. Leave pertinant info for a call back.

The entry fee is $3,500 for each team. The umpires cost $75.00 per game.

Schedule request for the 2012 season are due on January 10. The League will make every effort to meet your requests. Should conflicts occur, however, then play as scheduled. Realize that Sundays are more available to us in the Spring since schools do not use their facilities on that day.

Our Project should be finished early next year. We could have some weekend games at the site mixed with week night games.

We will conduct tryouts on February 12, 2012 at a site to be announced. All teams that wish to draft will be paid up for the season prior to drafting. Watch this space for furthher details on tryouts.

The 2011 National World Series

November 4, 2011

The 55+ Division is finished for the two San Antonio teams. The Yankees went 1-5 in round robin. And, the Texans finished 3-3 and lost out on the playoff round by one run allowed.

TITANS WIN!!! TITANS WIN!!! #17 for us!!! #3 for them. Kelly Skeens named MVP. Mark Pircher had a one hit shutout. Only one runner reached first base. He faced only 28 batters. Walked no one. TITANS WIN!!

The 65+ Texans are 5-1. We lost in the first round to AZ Cardinals.

REDS WIN!! REDS WIN!! 2-1 vs Tri-Valley Cardinals. David Schulz named MVP. Pat Bonney pitched a 9 inning gem. Emilio Gonzalez scored tying run on hustle play. Mike "Hammer" Baskerville scored winning run on hustle, also. #1 for them. # 18 for us!!

The Father/Son team is 2-2. They missed playoffs by a few runs.

The 35+ Bulldogs finished 1-4. The 60+ Red Sox completed round-robin as the two seed with a 4-2 record. They lost in their playoff game. The 60+ Rangers finished as the 4 seed with a 3-3. They lost in their playoff game. The 50+ Bombers were the 3 seed. And, they lost, too, in the semis.

All 11 teams wound up a respectible 40-30. 8 of the 11 made the playoff rounds.

Everyone back in San Antonio who have been watching these updates and following us need to know that each manager and player made tremendous efforts to be here. And, they represented the SAMSBL extremely well. We had nearly 200 of us out here (over 1/3 of our league). And, each of our members will confirm the old sports saying: "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" is alive and well. What a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Is it worth all we go through each year to come out here for a week?

YES!!!!!!!!!

Next year's trip begins now. Make your plans.
