July 20, UPDATE

July 20, 2020

Brief changes of plans. We will only play TWO weekends in August, 9th & 23rd. Galloway needs some slots to catch up and complete his season, He will have 2 & 16, August. The August schedule is published.

We play with time constraints of "no new inning after 2:30 with a time limit of 2:40, finish inning". And, in order to prevent a repeat of yesterday causing friction, the SEVEN (7) rule will be implemented until season's end.

The SEVEN (7) Rule pertains to pitchers. A Team gets 7 times to the mound in one game. Once exhausted, the pitchers is replaced. Each time thereafter, a "visit" to the mound will trigger replacement of the pitcher.

To be very Clear: A VISIT is 1. manager going to mound, 2. a position player (catcher, shortstop, center fielder, etc.) going to mound area; OR, 3. a pitcher going to talk to another player.

Seven total times and pitcher is removed from mound. 8th visit, pitcher is removed. 9th visit, pitcher is removed, etc. Once removed, NO pitcher so removed can return to pitch in that game!

Managers use this rule wisely. Umpires can declare when they believe it is a visit. No arguments about this. Games can be declared finished. Offending team forfeits.

Tip of the cap to Pirates Emerson Hayes and Lee Mann. E caught both games for the Pirates, complete. Lee started both games, completing the first one and 5 innings in the second one. Heat: 102 degrees. They stayed hydrated and performed well with the team winning both games that day.

Once play resumes, rule changes until further notice: 1. All players sign COVID 19 Waiver prior to play. Managers will offer prior to game. 2. STEALING: Coaches Option at Plate. Only one can insist no stealing, then it happens for that game. 3. Six (6) run rule exist for 1st 6 innings. Swap field after 6th run scores. If time has expired, and last inning is being played, then each team abates this rule in order to have a chance to win. otherwise, Rule is abated in innings 7,8,or 9.

4. Mask required in dugout unless social distancing can be maintained. 5. Each Team Manager bring bottle of hand sanitizer for each game.

Oldest Home Run Hitter in SAMSBL

July 9, 2020

So far Jerry Spencer remains the oldest member to hit a homer run. In order for his head not swell, need someone older to de-throne him. A little known fact for SAMSBL is the "older" players are monitored for a rare accomplishment.

And that is hitting home runs, rare, very rare. But miracles do happen every once and a while.

Some history: the first "old" guy to hit a home run was Pete Powell at Sanchez-Spencer when he was 57. The 2nd was Tom Keyser at Blanco at 58. The 3rd was Nelson Wolff at Texas State when he was 64.

And now, at 66 years and TWO months, is the current record holder, Jerry Spencer at Blanco 2 weeks ago.

He is thinking his ball rolled a total distance of nearly 500 feet from Home plate. That record is 617 feet.

WORLD SERIES 2020

June 15, 2020

Several Teams from the SAMSBL are looking to go to the World Series Events in Arizona and Florida during October and November.

As everyone knows, all tournament-bound players must be qualified to participate in these events. I need to sign ALL TOURNAMENT ROSTERS. Each Manager is to submit them in a timely fashion for signature.

Potential Teams are:

1. Bombers, invitation only 2. Either 55 or 60 +, A's, Gary Whitney/Carlton Hutchinson 3. 60 & 65 Texans, Invitational Only 4. 35 or 40+ Titans, Invitation Only.

Once a manager is identified, we may create more teams for WS participation.

LEAGUE RULES REMINDER

May 26, 2020

This policy is meant to be right up front.

Several 2020 National Tournaments are on the horizon. In order to participate in these events, players need to be SAMSBL league members.

To attend the National World Series, a player or team needs to have participated in the SAMSBL league. The SAMSBL has a strict policy regarding tournament players. All League Members sign their respective waivers agreeing to the policy. Any player needs a release from me to play on any other team in the nation.

If you play in the SAMSBL, then support the SAMSBL with your talents on the tournament teams at all times. Even pool players need a release. We send over a dozen teams to state and national tournaments. There is room for all who wish to go.
