For the first time in our 16 year history, we have played scheduled games in September. We finished our last league game on September 11 with a game
between the 45+ A's vs Dodgers. We will finish the city championships by September 23, as long as the rain holds off. We will have All Star games
the first week of October if the weather permits. However, they could be delayed until early March 2008.
We are looking to send 11 teams to the National World Series in Phoenix, AZ. The first group leaves about October 13. The last groups returns
November 4. Once again, the SAMSBL has an excellent opportunity to win several sets of rings.
A Fall Ball schedule will be published if more than one team commits. One team is forming with a manager standing by to operate the team. Call the
league number 302-8228 and leave your name and number. He will take players until his team is full. The opponents will be some of the world
series-bound teams from September 24 until late October. If the weather allows, we can play into November.
MANAGERS' MEETING for 2008 to be November 9, FRIDAY NIGHT, at 7: 00 PM at POWER SWING on Golden Quail off Huebner. Juluis Grullon, long-time SAMSBL member,
is the owner of the Facility. He has made dramatic improvements including an indoor infield and batting/pitching cages. Bring your bats if you wish to use
the cages. Refreshments will be provided. Existing teams deposits will be $300 and new teams will be $500. Sign-ups for Practice Slots at SZ-SP will be
available that night on a first come, first served basis beginning in December. Some teams are looking to change age divisions. The next Managers' meeting
will be in January. Tryouts will be in February. The 17th season will start the weekend of March 14, 15, 16, 2008. If enough interest is shown, we will
have a pre-season tournament in early March.
Tournaments for 2008 include Florida in January; Las Vegas Open during Memorial Day; Texas Cup in Houston during July 4th weekend; and the Alamo Classic
in San Antonio during Labor Day weekend.
The 2007 Wet season showed us that playing some baseball after Labor Day was very "do-a-ble". Every team got to play some games in September. The weather
finally cooperated giving us some hot, dry days to finish our season. It also produced some very comfortable evenings that were just perfect for playing
baseball. The 2008 season will take advantage of our new found knowledge.
As previously published, the 2008 season will start the weekend of March 14. We will play league games until the end of August, as normal. However, we will
play all city championship games AFTER the Labor Day Weekend as far into September 2008 as necessary. Each Age Division will have a double elimination
tounament for all SAMSBL teams. It will be a "second" season. The cost for the 2008 season will be based on 24 games at $140 per game for each team.
Some teams will have 23 games. Most will have 25 or more. The Umpire Fee remains at $70 per game for each team. A question to be resolved by all the
Managers at the next meeting concerns the final two teams in each division for the City Championships. Do you want a 2 out of 3 format, or, simply the
double elimination format?
Information for the 2007 HARDBALL YearBook Issue needs to be sent to the Editors by mid October. Again, Managers are encouraged to write the articles
about their teams. The deadline has slipped to September 20. Send the finished product to PO Box 690093, SA, TX 78269.
More information of the local city championships, 2007 Labor Day results, and other 2008 details will be published in the near future. Keep watching.
