The SAMSBL sent Ten (10) teams to represent us at the 2009 National MSBL World Series in Phoenix, Arizona. And represent us, they did!! We
sent the 60+ Dillos and Rangers. We sent the 18+ Blaze and Titans. We sent the 35+ Bulldogs, 45+ Reds, 45+ Bombers, 45+ Red Sox, 55+ Texans,
and the 55+ Yankees. The Dillos missed the playoff round by just 2 runs. Otherwise, all the other nine made it to the playoff rounds. And,
all of the other nine made it to their semi-final game. Never before in the history of MSBL has one league accomplished such a feat.
Further, 5 teams made it to the Championship game for their respective divisions. The 18+ Titans managed by Doug Rosini; 35+ Bulldogs managed by
Charlie Zapata; 45+ Red Sox managed by Bill Baldwin; 45+ Reds managed by Phil Galloway; and the 55+ Yankees managed by Dave Kellum. And, again,
never before in the history of MSBL has one league ever accomplished this level of participation. Half of our teams made the championship game.
Two teams won. The 35+ Bulldogs and the 55+ Yankees won within 10 minutes of each other. Even more remarkable, both teams defended their
championships from 2008. Once again, never before has two teams from one league ever repeated as champions, back-to-back. Never before has
one league ever had 5 teams play on one championship day at the World Series. The Texans played a semi-final game only to lose to the eventual
national champions. Steve Sigler said it best at the closing banquet when he changed the name of the day from championship day to "San Antonio
MSBL Day".
We have the best players in the nation! We have the best managers in the nation! We have the best League in the nation!
